If you do not have a server to post a website, establish an account at one of the following services. You may want to set up a dummy page or template.
Free Web-hosting services:
 
1.     GeoCities at: http://geocities.yahoo.com/   ****
2.     Tripod at: https://www.tripod.lycos.com/
3.     AngelFire at: https://www.angelfire.lycos.com/
 
You may use your own web-server or one of the above.
 
***I suggest GeoCities as it is easy to use template for the first page, then upload other files that are hyperlinked from the first page. It is also easy to move objects around on the template.
 
Web-authoring tools:
For all other pages, you can create documents in MS WORD, Publisher, or other applications capable of saving files in HTML format,  or one of the tools below.

Project Directions
 
Design and create a Web site for your classroom. You may use free Web-hosting services or you may use your school/district Web-hosting services, if available. You may use free Web-authoring tools, commercial Web-authoring tools, and/or Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).
The completed Web site will consist of multiple pages and include the following elements:
Home page  with
1.     Text
2.     Hyperlinks of interest
3.     Assignment calendar
4.     Contact information
5.     Graphics (digital images, photos)
6.     Must use navigation buttons NOT hyperlinks links only.
7.     Other items of your choice.
 
WEEK ONE
If you do not have a server to post a website, establish an account at one of the services listed above. You may want to set up a dummy page or template, and start reading the help files.
Educational Web Site Part I – Flowchart (To be posted as a Discussion Question Answer for Week One)
 
Read through the entire project and identify deliverables. Design a showing the path and pages of your site.   The Non-Designer’s Web Book: Chapter 7.   
WEEK TWO
Educational Web Site Part II – Basic Web Site
*Create a basic Web site with a minimum two pages that you create paying particular attention to the design principles. Follow the flowchart submitted in Workshop Two.
Apply both the “Not-so-good Design” and the “So-much-better Design” checklists from The Non-Designer’s Web Book ( Chapter 8 ) to your project. The Educational Web Site Part II – Basic Web Site is due in Week 2. Include the following elements:
 
*The first page you may want to use one of the templates from Geocities/Anglefire/Tripod
 
Include the following:
1.     Home page
a.     Your name and school
b.    Short description of your class(es)
c.     Hyperlink to class schedule page (This will be a Second Page)
d.    Hyperlink to your school and/or district Web site
2.     Second Page: Class schedule, planning time, and contact information
a.     Daily class schedule
b.    Contact information
c.     Hyperlink back to Home page
Locate a Web host. (Geocities/Anglefire/Tripod)
 
Transfer your Web site to the Web-hosting server.
Educational Web Site Part III - Enhancements
Create additional pages to the Web site (Link form the homepage), following the flowchart submitted in Workshop Two. The Educational Web Site Part III – Enhancements is due in Week 2.
 
 
Include the following elements:
1.     Short biography but be careful how much personal information you include to maintain your personal privacy
2.     Assignment calendar (i.e., weekly, monthly, other)
3.     Hyperlinks to sites of classroom interest such as content links to support objectives.
4.     Hyperlink to email the instructor
5.     Graphics relevant to instructional content
6.     Different typographical emphasis (e.g., fonts, font size, font style, font color)
Transfer your Web site to the Web-hosting server.
WEEK THREE
Educational Web Site Part IV – Final Product*
The Educational Web Site Part IV – Final Product is due in Week Three. Include the following elements:
1.     Publish the Tour and Quizzes as four separate Web pages,.
2.     Create navigation buttons on all Web pages
3.     Verify the Web site follows the flowchart submitted in Workshop Two
4.     Other items of your choice
Transfer your Web site to the Web-hosting server.
Test the entire Web site and make necessary modifications.
Submit in the format specified by the faculty member.
 
*These are additional web-pages that will link from your home page
