Each learning group will
be responsible for four (4) items.
- Lesson Plan - Create a lesson using
power point to present to the class about your groups topic. The topics again
are Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Plate Tectonics and Geologic History. When completed,
the power point should be able to access the internet and include enough information to actually lead the class for 1 hour. This time is flexible and will include the time it takes for the activities that your
group will also plan. Your group should also hand in a printed copy of the attached
daily lesson plan sheet. Be prepared
with copies of your power point (three slides to a page) for everyone to have and make notes on.
- Class Activity – Your group should
also find or make a class activity that everyone can complete. This activity
could be a group activity or an individual one. Either way, you need to provide
me with a copy of the activity and any rubric or grade sheet that goes with it.
- Review – Once your group has
presented its material and the class has completed the activity to your satisfaction, you should spend a few minutes summing
up the lesson and reviewing the material. You can do this any number of ways. You can ask questions, have a worksheet, a cross word puzzle, etc…
- Assessment – After your group has
presented all of your information, completed the activity and did the review, you must have the class do an assessment of
some kind. It can be something as simple as a quiz or more elaborate. Time is not a factor, but usually shorter is better. The assessment
will be given the day after you present your lesson. I will need a copy of it
before hand.
Note: Please be aware that there are four major areas of interest. I do not expect your group to teach the entire content area. For this reason, we will be doing one lesson per week, starting the first of the month. I will need to have your lesson, activity, review and assessment 3 days BEFORE so I can plan accordingly. What I teach will center around what you teach.
With that in mind, some groups will have more time to complete their lessons than others. Given that, the group that must go first will be graded more leniently than groups going later. BE PREPARED.
Grades: This assignment is worth a total of 200 points. Because
of the large nature of this assignment, it is imperative that all group members take responsibility to participate in its
completion. The following is the break-down of points for this assignment:
1.
Lesson Plan – 70 points (see attached rubric)
2.
Class Activity – 30 points
3.
Review – 25 points
4.
Assessment – 25 points
5.
Group Participation – 50 points (see attached rubric)
If there are any questions
or problems about this assignment, they should be brought to my attention immediately.
Please do not hesitate to make decisions that concern your group therefore your grade.
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!
